Educational Guidance Programme

The Educational Guidance programme is a Career Guidance programme that was developed for 5th and 6th classes at primary level and 1st year groups at second level and aims to highlight the value and importance of further and higher education for future success.

The programme takes a project-based learning approach, with students focusing on developing their group-work and problem-solving skills in stage one and exploring a chosen career path in stage two. The programme is designed to give students the opportunity to explore different jobs and career paths, and consider how decisions made early on at school (eg. choosing second-level subjects, subject levels and making decisions about further education) can influence their future career options. Towards the end of the programme, students undertake a research project on a chosen career, which is judged at an exhibition event by corporate judges. As part of the programme, primary-level students visit a local company in the docklands area and second-level students participate in A Day in the Life, to explore how education translates into the working world.
