Key Responsibilities:
Academic Oversight and Planning:
- Assume management responsibilities, as agreed with the Dean of the School, for providing effective oversight of permanent and associate faculty involved in delivering the School’s Psychology and Early Education programmes.
- Oversee and coordinate the timetabling and allocation of teaching responsibilities in collaboration with the Dean.
- Drive excellence in learning and teaching across the Psychology and Early Education subject areas of the School, fostering high-quality educational outcomes.
- Ensure the effective implementation and continuous oversight of NCI’s QA policies and procedures for Psychology and Early Education programmes, maintaining the highest standards of quality and compliance.
- Champion the student voice, actively engaging with student cohorts to enhance pedagogies, improve the student experience, and support their development.
- Oversee and manage the College’s apprenticeship programmes within the School of Psychology and Early Education, ensuring alignment with institutional objectives and standards.
- Maintain and strengthen relationships with relevant professional bodies, securing accreditation and enhancing support for the School’s Psychology and Early Education programme portfolio.
- Lead the development and revalidation of Psychology and Early Education programmes, under the direction and guidance of the Dean of the School of Business and Humanities, ensuring their relevance and rigor.
- Collaborate effectively with other internal Schools and Departments to promote interdisciplinary initiatives and enhance institutional synergy.
- Contribute strategically to new Psychology and Early Education programme planning and development, including the expansion of Erasmus and other international collaborations and partnerships.
- Participate actively in Academic Council, Academic Operations, and the Learning, Teaching, and Assessment Committee, providing valuable input to institutional governance and decision-making.
- Provide Subject Leadership, offering comprehensive academic oversight across all levels and modules within the discipline.
Key Attributes:
- A PhD qualification is essential.
- Evidence of subject expertise in Psychology, Early Education, or a relevant discipline.
- Evidence of success in innovation in learning, teaching, and curriculum development within Psychology and Early Education.
- Evidence of leadership and management in an academic environment.
- Clear understanding of pedagogies, assessments, quality of provision, income generation, accreditations, and research.
- Experience of in-programme internships and career progression activities.
- Ability to contribute to the development of School and College strategy.
- Evidence of programme validation or revalidations desirable.
- Evidence of research output and a personal research strategy.
- Commitment to the Mission of NCI: “to change lives through education.”
Desirable Criteria:
- Previous Programme Directorship experience
- Extensive expertise and an established record of research excellence, including experience of generating external funding and successful management of research grants
Essential Criteria:
- Knowledge of the Athena Swan Charter and experience promoting gender equality, diversity, and equity
Conditions of Service
Tenure: Permanent contract of employment.
Salary: €70,400 – €101,382 (Senior Academic & Managerial)
Location: Based at Mayor Street Lower, International Financial Services Centre, Dublin 1.
Working Hours: Minimum of 35 hours per week (five-day week), with potential evening and weekend work as required.
Annual Leave: The annual leave allowance is 34 days.

Shortlisting
HR draft up the shortlisting documents and provide the initial screening to determine if a person meets the essential criteria of the competition. A shortlisting panel is generally made up of two senior grade staff members from the relevant department for which the role is being recruited.

Where you have been successfully shortlisted for a post, each interview panel member will be furnished with a copy of the relevant information of those who will be attending interview in order that they can review applications in advance of the interview process.
