DSP Courses at NCI

In 2016, National College of Ireland commenced a collaboration with the Department of Social Protection to assist in developing the confidence and competence of DSP employees via a National Framework of Qualifications accredited education programme.

A suite of programmes was developed across multiple occupational profiles within the DSP in line with their mission and values. This suite of 8 programmes provides an overarching introduction to Public Administration and Social Protection Policy in Ireland. Programmes are offered at levels 6/7/8 and have been designed to professionalise DSP activities and provide staff with the confidence and competence to perform their role to the best of their ability in line with universal academic norms.

To date over 2,000  DSP staff have graduated from these programmes. In 2022, the NCI DSP Suite was awarded the ‘Workplace of the Future’ designation as part of the Civil Service Engagement & Innovation Awards by the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform.
