Course Description

Case Officers encourage, support & assist jobseekers to secure/sustain employment. They provide jobseekers with a career development/guidance service with the goal of securing employment & work with jobseekers on a progression plan. 

CO’s, with the jobseeker, prepare, implement and monitor this plan. CO’s provide a service to employers by promoting the Department’s schemes and supports & assist with filling vacancies- thus need a broad understanding of the Labour Market & its challenges for jobseekers & the needs of employers.

Communications Explain the principles of communication and how to remove common barriers
Decision Making Human behaviour and culture in the workplace
Influence & Impacts The ethics of influencing
Data Protection GDPR background & terminology, Policies and disclosures
Accounts Basics Analyse the financial position, performance and future prospects of business organisations
Working with People Explain the importance of studying human behaviour and culture in the workplace

Learning Outcomes

Graduates of this programme will be able to:

  • Demonstrate up to date specialist knowledge of all aspects of the role of a Case Officer in public employment services provision and develop detailed knowledge of how this interfaces with other roles within the DSP suite. 
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of legislation/ guidelines and comprehensive recognition of the policy context underpinning delivery of public employment services in a social protection system.
  • Demonstrate the specialist integrated skills necessary for the evaluation, identification and delivery of a public employment service to a range of clients.
  • Demonstrate a detailed understanding of the labour market and the needs expectations and processes of enterprise and employers.
  • Demonstrate recognition of how legislation, guidelines and policy context interrelate and are integrated in decision making in a social protection system Utilise diagnostic skills in a range of functions in a wide variety of interrelated contexts, processes & systems underpinning their role.
