Frances Sheridan is an Assistant Professor in Computing at National College of Ireland (NCI). Until 2013, Frances was also responsible for running the Computing Support Service at NCI but has now moved to lecturing full time.

Research Interests

Frances has particular interests in student engagement and retention and her pedagogical interests include Flipped Classrooms and Problem Based Learning. More specifically, her work examines the integration of the Flipped Classroom approach with Problem Based Learning to strengthen research skills among first year students.

Funding and Awards

Awarded the President's Award for Distinguished Teaching at National College of Ireland in 2013:
- The Distinguished Teaching Award is awarded for teaching that goes beyond the minimum requirement and which best be described as a sustained performance of excellence. It recognises the type of teaching that incites intellectual curiosity in students, inspires colleagues, and makes students aware of significant relationships between academic theory and the world outside.
Awarded NAIRTL Grant funding of €5000 in 2009/2010 for a collaborative project with the NCI Maths Support Tutor entitled "Development of an Adaptive Tutoring System for a Computing and Business Mathematics Module as a way to Facilitate Self-directed Learning through the use of the On-line Virtual Learning Environment Moodle".
