National College of Ireland is passionate about supporting students on their academic journey. There is a significant amount of care directed towards students who may need some extra support. Students who completed their Leaving Certificate Examinations will have received their results on Friday, August 23rd, 2024. As they start to decide which option they will take in September, we want to wish them all the best at this exciting and nerve-wracking time.
At National College of Ireland, we are currently preparing to support Leaving Cert students who have included our Data Science courses in their CAO choices, but they may not have attained a H5 in their mathematics exam. National College of Ireland is proud to offer these students an Alternative Maths Exam for Data Science which will take place on Friday, September 6th, 2024. The purpose of the Alternative Maths Exam for Data Science is to offer the candidates an alternative route to achieve the minimum entry requirement of H5 in Maths. The Mathematics Qualifying Examination will be set at a similar standard as the Leaving Certificate Honours Mathematics examination.
A minimum of a H5 in Leaving Certificate Maths is required for our Data Science courses:
Candidates will become eligible for entry to the data science programmes if:
- They pass the Alternative Maths Exam for Data Science Exam (This will replace their Leaving Cert Maths result.)
- They achieve the minimum entry points for that year.
- They meet the additional requirements of the programmes (i.e. a grade H5 and above in two higher level subjects together with a minimum of O6 in four other subjects to include English for BSc (Hons) in Data Science programme; a grade of O6/H7 or above in five subjects to include English for Higher Certificate in Data Science programme.

Preparatory Course Info:
National College of Ireland runs a preparatory course to help students prepare for the Alternative Maths Exam for Data Science.
The course is free of charge. Please note that admission to the preparatory course is limited to students who have already applied for our data science programmes through the CAO.
Key Dates:
- Tutorials – Monday, September 2nd, to Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, at 09:30am - 17:00pm.
- Exam – Thursday, 5th September 2024, at 10:00am -13:00pm.
- Results – Friday, 6th September 2024.
