National College of Ireland recognises the distress of students from Myanmar at hearing today’s news.

We encourage students to contact Student Counselling. If you are on campus, you may drop into the Student Support Hub in Mayor Square and you will be guided through the appointment-making process, or else email counselling@ncirl.ie

A powerful earthquake, measuring 7.7 magnitude on the Richter Scale, hit central Myanmar at 1:10 pm local time on 28 March, followed by a strong 6.4 magnitude aftershock, just 12 minutes later. The epicenter of the quake was about 17 kilometers from Mandalay, the country’s second-largest city. Telecommunications and internet have been affected, so a picture of the full impact of the earthquake will take time to emerge.

NCI works closely with agent partners in Myanmar and would like to express our sincere concern for their safety and wellbeing, as well as general sympathy and good wishes to all those impacted by this disaster.

Emergency response teams from the Myanmar Red Cross have been deployed. Donations can be made securely via the Irish Red Cross website.
