National College of Ireland was shortlisted in four categories in this year's Education Awards
- Best Use of Educational Technology/ICT Initiative of the Year (Project Showcase – School of Computing)
- Best Education Outreach Award (NEIC Work Experience & Flash Mentoring Initiative)
- Career Impact Strategy Award
- International Engagement Award
An awards show yesterday revealed the winners in each category, and NCI has much to be proud of.
Our International Department won the award for International Engagement. The judges acknowledged the truth of the subtitle of their application "A small team with a BIG impact", and were particularly impressed with the warm and generous testimonials from students, that supported the application.
This is the second time our Careers Service has been acknowledged by the Education Awards - on this occasion, judges made particular note of the accessibility and inclusion of NCI's Career Impact Strategy,
In most categories, only one prize was awarded, however the judges found it particularly hard to pick just one winner for Best Education Outreach Award, and the NEIC Work Experience & Flash Mentoring Initiative was presented with Second Place, with WIT's CALMAST (Centre for the Advancement of Learning of Maths, Science and Technology) taking First.
Best Use of Educational Technology/ICT Initiative of the Year went to TU Dublin, whose project to unroll remote work training to over 2,000 crossborder healthcare workers affected by COVID-19 restrictions pipped Project Showcase at the post in a very competitive field.
"It is wonderful to see so many areas of the College put themselves forward for these Awards, which are open to (and participated in by) all Higher Education Institutions across Ireland. It is a great indication of our professionalism, belief and pride in our work across the College," said President of NCI, Gina Quin, "I am proud of all our teams for doing so well and delighted to congratulate the winners."
This is National College of Ireland's third time participating in the Education Awards. In 2020, the Norma Smurfit Library won Best Library Team. In 2019, NCI Careers Service won its first education award for strategy impact, the Marketing Department was recognised as the Best Marketing and Communications Team, and the College took home the prestigious Overall Excellence in Education Award.
