Coder Dojo at National College of Ireland

Founded in Ireland in 2011, Coder Dojo is a not-for-profit global organisation that aims to offer free opportunities for young people to learn computer coding. Coder Dojo puts a strong emphasis on open source and free software and now has a strong network of members and volunteers globally. It was founded by James Whelton and Bill Liao, an entrepreneur and philanthropist, who was interested in developing the project and the movement Coder Dojo was founded.

At Coder Dojo, young people learn how to code, develop websites, apps, programs, games and more. Coder Dojo (Dublin 1 @ NCI-ELI) is a six week programme at the college for students between 4th class and 1st year (10-14 years old). The Coder Dojo at National College of Ireland is a collaboration between the Early Learning Initiative, NCI’s School of Computing and IT Services. A group of student mentors are recruited through the Campus Connect volunteer programme to help support the sessions.

The programme will take place in NCI every Tuesday from 5-6.30pm, beginning Tuesday 25th February. Parents are welcome to accompany and participate or observe. Interested students must register with the Early Learning Initiative to participate. This programme is free of charge.
